Perdido Bay sits at the Alabama-Florida line and fishes like a true estuary system — speckled trout and redfish get most of the attention, but the species mix surprises anglers who dig deeper. Flounder stack up in the pass and along channel edges through summer and into the fall mullet run, when the biggest fish of the year move through. Bluefish push in during cooler months and can show up anywhere bait schools are being worked near the surface. Spanish mackerel run the deeper water near the mouth in warmer months. The bay's connection to the Gulf means transient species like kingfish and black sea bass appear around hard bottom and structure near the pass seasonally.

Work the edges where grass flats drop into deeper water on a falling tide — that's where flounder and trout ambush bait being swept off the flat. Soft plastic paddle tails and DOA-style shrimp imitations on quarter-ounce jigheads cover both species effectively. Live finger mullet or mud minnows fished on a Carolina rig near channel drops consistently produce flounder. When bluefish are running, wire leader and fast-moving spoons or topwater plugs get strikes quickly.
