Edisto's sounds and tidal creeks fish differently depending on where you are in the calendar. Spring and fall are the sweet spots — redfish school up in the shallows around oyster bars and marsh grass edges, and speckled trout push into the creek mouths and deeper holes as water temperatures swing through the 60s. Summer heat drives trout deep into channel bends and keeps flounder hugging the bottom near structure. Come fall, flounder stack up near creek mouths as they stage to move offshore, and redfish tailing on the flats becomes some of the most exciting sight-fishing of the year. Winter fishing slows but never dies — reds and the occasional trout will still eat on warm afternoon tides near dark mud banks that absorb heat.

Your best friend here is the tide, and these marsh creeks fish best on the last two hours of the outgoing and the first push of the incoming when baitfish funnel through tight cuts and ambush points stack with predators. Work shallow oyster rakes with weedless gold spoons or soft plastics on a quarter-ounce jig for redfish, and slow down near any dock pilings or creek bends for flounder — a live mud minnow or finger mullet dragged slowly along the bottom is hard to beat. Trout respond well to paddle-tail swimbaits and popping corks over grass edges, especially when water temps are between 58 and 72 degrees. When wind lays down and the water clears after a rain cycle passes, your sight-fishing window opens up considerably — use it.
