Largemouth bass dominate the shallower timber edges and flats through spring and fall, while smallmouth favor harder structure and cleaner bottom near the points. Stocked trout fish best in cooler months before surface temps climb past the mid-60s, after which they push deep or disappear from practical range. Chain pickerel lurk tight to the timber and weed fringes in cold water and again in fall. Walleye are present and underrated, best targeted low-light and after dark. Catfish and panfish fill in the warm months across the deeper flats.

In spring, work the timber edges with slow-rolled swimbaits or Texas-rigged plastics as bass stage before the spawn, and focus the points where slightly warmer water concentrates fish first. The submerged wood holds pickerel and largemouth all year — keep your presentations tight to the structure rather than beside it. For walleye, dragging a jig-and-minnow combination along the deeper point transitions at dawn and dusk consistently outperforms midday efforts. When surface temps break 70 degrees, shift catfish and panfish setups toward the flats using nightcrawlers or cut bait on a slip-sinker rig. In fall, dropping water clarity and cooling temps push both bass species back shallow, making spinnerbaits and jerkbaits particularly effective along timber runs and wind-blown points.
