Sea Bright sits at the mouth of the Shrewsbury River, which makes it unusually productive across a long season. Striped bass show first in spring, working the inlet and river mouth as they follow bait migrations north. Bluefish arrive close behind and can be relentless through summer. Fluke set up in the river and along the nearshore surf trough once water temperatures climb into the mid-60s, while black sea bass hold on the rocky jetty structure throughout warmer months. Tautog dominate those same rocks in fall and again in early spring. Weakfish, though less predictable than they once were, still ghost through the river in spring and early summer, and kingfish show reliably in the surf during summer.

Work the jetty base during the last two hours of outgoing tide, when current scours baitfish tight to the rocks — that's prime time for stripers and tautog on fresh crab or bucktails tipped with soft plastic. In the surf, target the trough that forms parallel to the beach, especially after a northeast wind stirs up sand eels and spearing. For fluke, drift the river channel with bucktail-and-gulp combinations, keeping the bait just above the sandy bottom. Cool water in the low 60s sharpens striper and weakfish feeding, while warmer mid-summer water pushes the best fluke action into slightly deeper river holes.
