Lake Anna holds a solid mix of species, but largemouth bass are the bread and butter here. The reservoir's two sections matter — the warm side near the nuclear plant stays several degrees warmer year-round, which pulls largemouth, catfish, and panfish into shallower structure earlier in spring and keeps them active later into fall. Smallmouth are present but less dominant than the largemouth. Chain pickerel lurk in the weedy coves and shallow flats throughout the year. Trout and walleye are stocked periodically and tend to favor cooler, deeper water, so targeting them means fishing different structure than you'd work for bass.

On the warm side, bass push onto points and dock pilings even in late winter — target those dock posts with a shaky head or finesse jig when the water climbs into the mid-50s. In summer, fish move deep by midday; work dock shade and secondary points with Texas-rigged plastics or drop shots. Pickerel ambush from grass edges on the flats — a fast-moving spinnerbait or shallow crankbait draws reaction strikes. Catfish respond well to cut bait fished on the bottom near channel swings after dark. Panfish stack under docks in spring; small jigs and live crickets are hard to beat. Watch surface temps — that warm-side differential is your edge when the rest of the lake is still cold.
