Galveston's jetties, bay, and surf offer a solid mix year-round, but the fishing shifts noticeably with the seasons. Redfish and speckled trout dominate the bay and jetty edges in fall when cooling water pulls them shallow and feeding becomes aggressive before winter. Summer pushes trout deep into the ship channel and grass-flat edges, while redfish school on the flats and along marsh drains. Flounder stage heavily around the jetties during their fall offshore migration — one of the most reliable windows of the year. Red snapper concentrate around the jetty rocks in warmer months and are worth targeting if you have a longer rod arm and patience.

For jetty fishing, work the rocks themselves with gulp shrimp or live shrimp under a popping cork during incoming tides when cleaner gulf water pushes through. Redfish root along oyster reefs and spartina grass edges in the back bay — a weedless gold spoon or a carolina-rigged crab imitation gets bit there. Flounder hug structure transitions, so slow-drag a paddle tail along the bottom where the rocks meet sand. In the surf, speckled trout and redfish move with gut channels and troughs; learn to read those parallel depressions and fish them on a rising tide with moderate onshore wind pushing bait in. North winds in fall concentrate trout in deeper, protected cuts — that cold push is a trigger, not a deterrent.
