Ten Thousand Islands holds snook, redfish, tarpon, spotted seatrout, and mangrove snapper as its bread-and-butter species, with the mix shifting hard through the seasons. Winter pushes trout and redfish deep into backcountry creeks and onto dark-bottom flats where they can absorb heat. Spring wakes up the passes with rolling tarpon and snook pushing onto the flats to spawn through summer. Fall is prime time across the board, with cooler water firing up aggressive feeding before the cycle resets. The species you listed — striped bass, fluke, bluefish, black sea bass, tautog, weakfish, and kingfish — are not resident species in this water and will not be encountered here.

Work the mangrove edges on an incoming tide, when baitfish stack along the roots and snook slide tight to the shade. Weedless soft plastics and live pinfish or pilchards pitched within inches of the prop roots produce best. On the flats, a falling tide drains baitfish out of the grass and concentrates redfish at flat edges and drain cuts — watch for tailing fish in water under two feet. Water temps below 60 degrees lock fish into deep creek bends; when temps climb above 85, work early-morning low-light windows. Wind above 15 knots muddies the flats fast, so prioritize leeward shorelines when conditions get sloppy.
