Greers Ferry is a clear, deep Ozark impoundment on the Little Red River system, and that clarity shapes everything. Largemouth dominate the shallower, more vegetated upper arms and creek pockets, while smallmouth thrive on the rocky main-lake points and bluff walls the lake is known for. Hybrid bass roam open water and often betray themselves with surface-busting schools, especially in fall and spring when shad push toward the surface. Winter fishing slows but never dies — find largemouth staging near wood in the backs of creeks, and smallmouth hugging deep rocky structure. Spring is prime for both, as smallmouth move onto gravel and chunk-rock to spawn in surprisingly shallow water given the lake's clarity.

For smallmouth, work chunk-rock points and bluff ends with finesse — drop shots, shaky heads, and tube baits in natural crawfish colors account for a lot of fish. Largemouth respond to jigs and soft plastics worked through wood and laydowns in the creek arms. Thermocline depth in summer is critical; most active fish stack just above it.
